Sightseeing and excursions

Julianadorp is fantastically located on the coast and is therefore a perfect base for visits to other seaside resorts and historic cities.

Take a nice drive along the dunes towards the south. First you pass Groote Keeten, Callantsoog and then the coastal town of Schoorl, with the famous "Klimduin" where the children can run from the large sand dune. Then towards the beautiful Bergen aan Zee and visit the Sea Aquarium there and finish at Egmond aan Zee. All these coastal towns are popular with beachgoers because of their extensive sandy beaches and cozy beach pavilions. Zandvoort also has a beautiful beach and of course also has the race circuit.

If you head inland, you will come across the beautiful and historic cities of Alkmaar and Haarlem. Alkmaar has a beautiful historic center with more than 400 national monuments. The city is also known as "the cheese city".

Another trip that is very worthwhile from Julianadorp is to Hoorn, 50 kilometres away. This beautiful town on the IJsselmeer has a very long history. Tip: take a trip back in time with the historic steam tram from Hoorn to Medemblik and Enkhuizen.

World famous and can even be seen from space: the 32-kilometre-long Afsluitdijk forms the dividing line between the Wadden Sea and the IJsselmeer and forms the connection between the provinces of North Holland and Friesland. A ride over this gigantic structure that protects our country from flooding is always a very special experience.
In neighboring village Anna Paulowna you will find Landgoed Hoenderdaell in a 74 hectare nature reserve. This unspoilt, typical Dutch landscape is ideally suited for walks. The animal park is an elongated area with a petting zoo and many wild animals such as crocodiles, ring-tailed lemurs, macaws, hyenas, wolves, lions, tigers, bears etc. Also in Anna Paulowna you will find the Polder garden which, like the Keukenhof, turns into a sea of hyacinths, daffodils and tulips in spring.
